KPSKyalami Preparatory School competes across a variety of sports codes and leagues through the year. Our Grade 3 to 7 children participate in formalised sports leagues and our junior children in the mini leagues. We offer a variety of sports to our children, including swimming, cricket and softball in the summer, netball, soccer and hockey in winter and athletics in the spring. We play tennis, chess and do equestrian all year round. In Athletics and Swimming we compete in the top league (A-League) for Co-Ed schools in Johannesburg, and for our other sports, we compete in local events.

We believe in getting as many of our children involved with the sports program as possible and providing them with the platform to perform as well as they can. We are fully competitive in all of our A team sports, and we aim for maximum participation in our other teams.

My greatest point is my persistence. I never give up in a match. However down I am, I fight until the last ball. My list of matches shows that I have turned a great many so-called irretrievable defeats into victories.

Grade 1: Exercising with a Fitness Ball

Sitting on a ball instead of a chair is a great way to keep your spine healthy. Try to sit on a ball for at least part of your work day, if you have a desk job. When you sit on a ball, you're forced to sit up with good posture because you have nothing to lean back on. Also, because the ball rolls around, it keeps you on your toes and keeps your body moving, which helps prevent the stiffness and back pain that you can get from being too sedentary.

The ball rolls around easily, so core strength and balance are required to keep it still. The challenge of keeping the ball still makes the ball an excellent tool to teach stability and rehabilitation. The simplest movement can become a huge challenge when you do it on the ball. Using a ball can give your workout a little more variety and extra challenge.

What's the deal with those big bouncy balls taking up space around the gym? Stability balls (aka exercise balls, balance balls, Swiss balls or fitness balls) are more than just fun to sit and bounce on; they're a great way to improve strength, cardio endurance, and balance. By tackling basic moves (like push-ups, squats, and planks) on an unstable surface, muscles get more bang for the buck. Stability balls are also great for getting back into shape after an injury because they can reduce muscle and spinal strain during certain movements.
