Message from the Headmaster
Mandela Day Initiatives at KPS
On 18 July, the KPS community celebrated what would have been Nelson Mandela’s centennial year.
The focus of the celebrations was on the recognising the values that Madiba strove for in bringing change and hope to our country. This message was inspired by Mandela’s famous quote, “I believe that in the end it is kindness and generous accommodation that are the catalysts for real change.’’ Kindness and generosity served as the central theme for the week.
The children collected their small change for a few months beforehand, in order to fill up their Arks (money banks), to be donated to Afrika Tikkun. The generous desire to give back soon grew to include tins of food for the benefit of our local community and blankets to assist the Baragwaneth baby care facility.
The value of displaying the collected items on the School field was immediately apparent. Children who may have questioned whether a blanket or a tin of food could make a difference soon acknowledged the power of a collective effort to reach a goal to assist others in need. The exercise of working together as a community to make a difference to help others will hopefully inspire our children for years to come.
Thank you to the KPS community for your kind donations, and for encouraging our children to be part of an initiative with such an important message.
It is on this positive note that I wish you a safe and restful holiday. “It’s not what you have in your life but who you have in your life that counts.” JM Lawrence.
